How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows provide a number of benefits for homeowners in Long Island, one being better energy efficiency. Whether you’re exploring online or with an expert at a showroom, energy efficiency is an important factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great option if you’re wanting increased efficiency.

A lot of new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is denser than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you note that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a greater leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to ensure that the condensation or fog you’re seeing is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you determine the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can contact the manufacturer to determine if you can claim it under your warranty.
Depending on how old your windows are and the conditions impacting the leak, it might make sense to start searching for replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important qualities of your windows, and if that is altered it can change your heating and cooling expenses.
